Russell Brand pleads not guilty to new assault charges

British actor and comedian Russell Brand has pleaded not guilty to two further sexual offence charges.

Last year, Brand was charged with rape, sexual assault, and indecent assault in relation to alleged offences against four women between 1999 and 2005.

He pleaded not guilty and is due to face trial in June.

Appearing in a London court on separate charges this week, the 50-year-old denied accusations he raped one woman and sexually assaulted another in 2009.

Here’s the latest.

Prior charges

In 2023, the UK’s Sunday Times and Channel 4 jointly published reports alleging Brand had sexually assaulted and emotionally abused at least four women.

Last year, police announced they had pressed charges against the actor based on these accusations.

In a video statement posted to social media, Brand said the charges were a demonstration of the law being used as a “weapon” against him.

He denies all charges against him.

New allegations

In December 2025, the UK’s Crown Prosecution Service authorised two further charges of rape and sexual assault against Brand. These new charges relate to alleged offences against two additional women in 2009.

Brand, who has consistently denied all allegations, pleaded not guilty to the latest charges this week.

The court will now decide whether the new charges should be brought into the existing case, which is due to go to trial in June. Brand’s lawyer said more time is needed to address the new allegations.
