Ceasefire or humanitarian pause: What’s the difference?

You may have heard calls for a ceasefire in recent coverage of the conflict between Israel and Hamas. These calls have been made at protests around the world, and by various world leaders. However, leaders in Israel have said they won’t agree to a ceasefire until the hostages taken on October 7 have been released. Instead, Israel has agreed to daily four-hour humanitarian pauses. In today’s deep dive, we’ll explain the difference between a ceasefire and humanitarian pause.
