Australia appoints its first ambassador for First Nations people: Justin Mohamed

Gooreng Gooreng man Justin Mohamed has been named as Australia’s inaugural Ambassador for First Nations People. In his position, Mohamed will lead the First Nations Engagement office, which will be situated in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. He was previously CEO of Reconciliation Australia and Chairperson of the National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation. The position will ensure that Australia has First Nations representation during international engagements and will work to advance global Indigenous rights. Mohamed said he was excited to “embed First Nations voices and knowledge into Australia’s foreign policies and trade”, and would help to develop foreign policies that have First Nations perspectives “front and centre”. He will begin the role in April.
