Australia has recorded its hottest winter temperature since records began in 1910.

Yampi Sound in WA’s Kimberley region recorded a temperature of 41.6°C around 3:30 pm (AWST) on Monday.

The previous highest winter temperature of 41.2°C was also recorded in the Kimberley, in August 2020.

The “unprecedented” warm weather is being blamed on “an unseasonably hot airmass that built up over northern Australia during the past week,” according to Weatherzone.

The 21st and 22nd of July set back-to-back highs for the hottest day on record globally.
