An Australian couple have been found dead in a hotel room in the Philippines.

A third person, understood to be a relative of the couple, was also found dead at a resort in Tagaytay, south of Manila.

Police are investigating CCTV footage showing a masked man leaving the couple’s room, hours before staff at the Lake Hotel found the three bodies.

Australian authorities are assisting the victims’ families.

The Department Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) did not identify the victims, but confirmed it’s “providing consular assistance to the families of two Australians who have died in the Philippines.”

Relatives told the Associated Press the Australian couple, a man and a woman in their 50s, were visiting family in the Philippines.

Local police said the motive for the killings remains unclear.

“We send our condolences to the families at this difficult time,” DFAT said.
