Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong will visit China tomorrow

Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong will visit Beijing tomorrow to meet with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

It coincides with the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. It’s the first visit by a Foreign Minister in four years and follows Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the G20 summit earlier this year.

Shadow Foreign Minister Simon Birmingham described both meetings as “welcome breakthroughs” after a period of diplomatic pause.
