Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs player Josh Addo-Carr has stood himself down from this weekend’s elimination final against the Manly Sea Eagles, after he allegedly tested positive for cocaine during a roadside police stop on Friday night.
What happened
Addo-Carr was pulled over by police for a random drug test on Friday night in Sydney. He then allegedly tested positive for cocaine and a second test was taken for further analysis.
The 29-year-old has not been charged pending the results of the second test and has denied using the substance.
The Bulldogs’ General Manager Phil Gould, coach Cameron Ciraldo, and chairman Adam Driussi met this morning to discuss whether or not they would field him this weekend before Addo-Carr took the decision into his own hands and stood himself down from the elimination final.
Comments
In a press conference this morning, Gould said: “We’ve got a big crowd coming; fans and supporters – there’ll be a lot disappointed that Josh isn’t playing.
“He’s a very, very popular player in our club and with our fanbase, but in talking to Josh this morning he realised it was probably the right thing to do at the moment on behalf of the team and the club and I thank him for that.”
