Residents across parts of NSW have felt a 5.0 magnitude earthquake this afternoon.

According to Geoscience Australia, the origin of the earthquake in NSW – which had a depth of 10km – was recorded near Denman in the state’s Upper Hunter region.

At the time of posting, at least 1,500 people had reported feeling the quake to Geoscience Australia. Tremors were felt along the Central Coast and parts of metropolitan Sydney.

The Bureau of Meteorology confirmed there is no tsunami threat to Australia from the earthquake.

An SES spokesperson told TDA they’ve received several calls for assistance around the NSW Upper Hunter region. The BoM said there is no tsunami threat.
