Four people have died, and three are in hospital in a critical condition after two helicopters collided near Sea World on the Gold Coast.

Four people have died, and three are in hospital in a critical condition after two helicopters collided near Sea World on the Gold Coast.

According to police, one helicopter was taking off while the other was landing.

Police said the helicopter crash-landed on a sandbank across from the Sea World resort.

Members of the public were first to help at the scene of the crash.

“We and the entire flying community are devastated by what has happened and our sincere condolences go to all those involved and especially the loved ones and family of the deceased. We are co-operating with all the authorities including the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) and the Queensland Police. As it is now a police investigation we cannot provide any further information at this stage,” said a spokesperson for the Sea World Helicopters.
