The hottest August ever recorded in Australia was last month, with temperatures 3°C above the long-term average.
That’s according to WeatherZone, who said it was Australia’s hottest winter month on record.
Temperatures were 3°C above the long-term average, and every state and territory was at least one degree warmer than the previous monthly average.
The hottest winter day on record was 28 August: 41.6°C at Yampi Sound in northwest WA.
Apart from the “underlying influence of climate change”, WeatherZone found higher temperatures were caused by an “extraordinary build-up of heat” in the middle of the country.
