U.S. Presidential candidate Kamala Harris has named Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate.
It follows weeks of speculation about who Harris might choose, after current President Joe Biden stepped down as the Democratic Party’s candidate.
Harris and Walz will be officially selected as the Democratic Presidential and Vice Presidential nominees at the party’s national convention this month.
The U.S. election is on 5 November.
Tim Walz
Walz, 60, was elected Governor of Minnesota in 2019. He previously represented a rural district in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2007 to 2019.
Walz’ district elected Republican candidates before and after him.
In recent weeks, Walz came to national attention by publicly calling Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump and Vice Presidential candidate J.D. Vance “weird”.
Tim Walz was considered a leading candidate for Kamala Harris’ running mate in the last few days.
