A NSW woman has been arrested in relation to the deaths of her two primary school-aged sons.
The bodies of the boys, aged nine and 11, were discovered by their father inside their Blue Mountains home on Tuesday.
Their 42-year-old mother is under police guard in hospital, where she is being treated for “a number of injuries”.
NSW Police Superintendent John Nelson said the state’s Homicide Squad is working with local investigators to understand “what’s actually happened in these tragic circumstances”.
Context
Police were called to a Faulconbridge home on Tuesday, over welfare concerns for a woman and two children.
Two young boys were found dead inside the home, in circumstances described by NSW Police as “very suspicious”.
The boys had attended school the previous day. Their mother was known to police for “minor matters” but neither parent has a record of domestic violence.
Their father is now assisting police with their investigation.
Response
NSW Police said it’s prioritising mental health support for its first responders who attended the “tragic incident”, as well as the victims’ family members.
NSW MP Trish Doyle represents the Blue Mountains. She said the deaths were “beyond harrowing.”
“My heart goes out to the family, local community, friends, schools and our first responders — who faced awful scenes today. We are all reeling from this shocking incident.“
