A NSW Police officer has been suspended with pay after he was charged with assaulting a woman and three girls while on duty.

NSW Police confirmed a 37-year-old officer was charged with assault over an incident in a shopping centre on the state’s South Coast last year.

He’s due to appear in court later this month.

What we know

In late October 2023, a senior constable on duty at a Bateman’s Bay shopping centre allegedly assaulted a 49-year-old woman and three teenage girls. Two of the girls were 13 and one was 17.

On Friday, NSW Police released a statement confirming the officer had been charged with four counts of assault.

The NSW police officer has since been suspended with pay. He is scheduled to appear in court on 25 November.

Response

In a statement to TDA, a spokesperson for NSW Police Minister Yasmin Catley said the police force “treats these matters with the utmost seriousness”.

“We will respect the judicial process and refrain from further comment,” they said, as the incident is now before the court.

“Our priority remains the safety and trust of the community”.
