A statewide ban on phones in all NSW public schools comes into effect today. The ban coincides with the start of Term 4.
The NSW Government announced the ban in April for all public high schools. Primary schools already ban mobile phones.
It will be up to individual NSW public schools to determine how to enforce the phone ban, which the Government hopes will improve student performance and behaviour.
Many schools are expected to ask students to keep their phones off and in their lockers or school bags throughout the day.
Other options include locked phone pouches, magnetic pouches unlocked at the end of the school day. Schools may collect phones at the start of the day and store them in the front office.
Schools can make exemptions for phone use, such as for educational purposes or to support student wellbeing.
