Electronic gaming machines in NSW made a net profit of over $3.8 billion in the first half of 2022, according to new data from the state government.
It’s almost double the profits made from pokies in the second half of 2021, suggesting a strong return to gambling machines after the easing of COVID-19 restrictions.
The top five areas of net profit were all in Greater Sydney:
Canterbury-Bankstown: $325 million
Fairfield: $313 million
Cumberland: $217 million
Blacktown: $174 million
Sydney CBD: $165 million
