The number of reported sexual assaults in Australia is at a record high, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).
It found that over 36,000 victim-survivors reported sexual assault to police in 2023, its highest point in 31 years.
This is an 11% increase from the previous year.
Of the reported sexual assaults, the ABS found that around 85% were female, and the most common age at the time of sexual assault was from 10 to 17-years-old.
