The NSW Government will cancel over 33,000 COVID-19 fines following a legal challenge

The NSW Government will be cancelling over 33,000 fines issued for COVID-19 restriction breaches after a legal challenge in the NSW Supreme Court.

It was found that some COVID penalty notices were invalid because they did not adequately detail the offence committed.

What’s next

The withdrawn fines account for just over half of all COVID-related fines issued in NSW since the start of the pandemic.

Anyone who has paid a fine that’s now been withdrawn will receive a refund or a credit to pay off any other debts to the NSW Government.

Other consequences related to a fine, such as driver’s licence restrictions, will also be dropped.
