The Nurses and Midwives Association said pressures on emergency departments “cannot be primarily attributed to the GP shortage”.

NSW Police have been offered a pay rise of up to 39% while nurses and midwives strike across the state for better wages.

NSW nurses and midwives are calling for a 15% pay increase and have entered a negotiation period with the State Government.

On Monday, the union was told by a Government body to shut down its plans for today’s nurses and midwives strike.

On 15 July, NSW nurses and midwives began industrial action for a pay increase by wearing badges. On Monday 22 July, rallies commenced.

The “once-in-a-generation pay increase” deal comes after weeks of industry-wide protests and months of negotiations between the union and the State Government.
