Author Craig Silvey charged with child exploitation offences

Australian author Craig Silvey has been charged with alleged possession and distribution of child exploitation material.

Silvey has written several acclaimed books, including ‘Honeybee’ and ‘Jasper Jones’.

A WA Police statement said a 43-year-old man had been arrested in Fremantle on Monday.

Police did not explicitly name Silvey, however it has been widely reported by other media outlets.

Police did confirm a 43-year-old man was caught allegedly actively engaging with child exploitation offenders online when police raided his home on Monday.

In a statement, WA Police said: “He was immediately arrested, and his electronic devices were seized.”

The ABC reports Silvey has been granted bail.
