Over the weekend, a bomb was detonated outside a fertility clinic in the U.S. state of California, killing one and injuring four.
Officials believe they have identified the person responsible for the bombing, a 25-year-old local man who was found dead at the scene.
The FBI has officially labelled the incident “an intentional act of terrorism.”
Explosion
Just before 11am on Saturday (local time), a bomb inside a Ford sedan exploded outside a fertility clinic in Palm Springs, California.
Authorities said the “explosion was significant, covering several blocks”.
It’s believed the incident was “a targeted attack against the IVF facility”.
Palm Springs Police Chief Andrew Mills said the department spent hours “clearing the entire neighbourhood”, and confirmed there is no further risk to the community, calling it an “isolated incident”.

The FBI has taken over the case, calling it “one of the largest bombing investigations [it has led] in Southern California”.
The FBI said it is “fairly confident” it has identified the deceased suspect.
A search warrant has been issued for his home, and authorities say they are “tracking a possible manifesto” they believe he wrote.
It’s also believed he attempted to live stream the incident.

The American Reproductive Center (ARC), which runs the clinic, said it is “heartbroken” by the bombing.
It has confirmed that no eggs, embryos, or “reproductive materials” were damaged in the explosion.
The clinic said a “complete safety inspection” is underway to ensure other “operations and sensitive medical areas were not impacted”.
