Victoria Police has arrested more than 30 people over suspected links to a series of homophobic attacks.
Police allege separate groups of young men used gay dating apps and social media to catfish men and “lure” them into meeting up, where they were “assaulted, robbed, threatened and subjected to homophobic comments”.
The alleged offenders are mostly male and mostly teenagers, though some are as old as 20.
Authorities have urged victims to come forward as investigations continue.
Arrests
Police said they have been arresting men over the alleged attacks since October 2024.

Charges laid so far include armed robbery, intentionally causing injury, and drug and weapon possession.
Dating apps
Victoria Police said it is working with dating apps to help ensure LGBTQIA+ people’s safety.
Acting Superintendent Carolyn Deer said: “There is absolutely no place for this type of concerning behaviour in our society. It will not be tolerated.”
“Everyone has a right to go about their lives, meet new people, and start a relationship in safety,” Deer said.
