Australian fashion company Jeanswest will shut down more than 90 stores across the country after it collapsed, entering voluntary administration.

The Perth-born retailer plans to cease all physical operations “in due course”.

A statement from its appointed administrators said Jeanswest has “done everything they can” to keep stores open, but they are no longer “viable and unlikely to improve.”

More than 600 employees are expected to be made redundant.

Jeanswest

Jeanswest was launched in Western Australia in 1972 and grew to operate more than 100 stores across Australia and New Zealand.

The brand was placed under administration in 2020. Voluntary administration means a company can’t afford to pay its debts, and has appointed an independent body to take control of its operations.

It was rescued by a Hong Kong-based company, but has again been placed into voluntary administration this week.
