Melbourne neo-Nazi protest sparks police investigation

Police have launched an investigation after a group of around 20 masked men staged a protest outside a Liberal Senator’s office in Melbourne.

Officers were called to Senator James Paterson’s office on Sunday following reports a group of neo-Nazis had held a rally.

Speaking through a megaphone, the group’s leader accused both major parties of creating a “third world Australia”.

Paterson, the Coalition’s home affairs spokesperson, dismissed the incident, saying he was “not remotely intimidated”.

The protest

The masked men are believed to be associated with a right-wing neo-Nazi group called the National Socialist Network.

During the protest, the group’s leader was heard shouting through a megaphone that both major parties are “equally guilty” for what he claimed were some of Australia’s key issues, including immigration, housing, and the cost of living.

Victoria Police said the group “dispersed” before officers arrived. No arrests or charges have been made.

Response

In a statement to TDA, Senator Paterson said he is “not remotely intimidated by cosplaying losers who hide their faces behind masks.”

“These protestors only make me more determined to protect Australians from extremists of all stripes,” Paterson said.

The incident comes after The Australian revealed Coalition Leader Peter Dutton was the intended target of an alleged terrorism plot planned by a teenager last year.
