Police have arrested a 16-year-old boy in Western Australia over a threat made to a mosque in south-west Sydney.
The Australian Islamic House in Edmondson Park alleged it was threatened with a social media comment referencing the 2019 Christchurch terrorist attack, when a gunman killed 51 people at a mosque and community centre.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has condemned the threat, saying: “Racism and Islamophobia will not be tolerated.”

NSW police were alerted to a threat made online to the Australian Islamic House mosque in Sydney’s south-west on Monday.
The threat came during the holy month of Ramadan, when many Muslims will pray at a mosque each evening.

The Australian Islamic House alleged the commenter had threatened to turn the mosque into “Christchurch 2.0”.
Last night, a 16-year-old boy in south-west WA was arrested over the alleged threat. Police said there are no continued risks to the community.

The shooter – an Australian man – murdered 51 people at the Al Noor mosque and Linwood Islamic Centre.
In a statement, Australian Islamic House President Mazhar Hadid said: “We are profoundly concerned by this threat and take it with the utmost seriousness.”
