London Metropolitan Police are investigating Prince Andrew

The London Metropolitan Police are “actively looking into the claims made” about Prince Andrew following reports he tried to find incriminating information about his alleged victim Virginia Giuffre in 2011.

London Metropolitan Police are investigating Prince Andrew

It comes after Andrew announced he would give up his royal titles on Friday due to the “continued accusations” about him and his friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Here’s what you need to know.

Background

Andrew is the son of late Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip. He was an associate of the late sex offender Jeffery Epstein.

One of Epstein's accusers, the late Virginia Giuffre, claimed she was trafficked by Epstein and was forced to engage in sexual activity with Andrew while she was underage.

Andrew settled a lawsuit with Giuffre in 2022, without admitting wrongdoing.

The allegations against Andrew have continued to cause controversy over the past few years.

Titles

On Friday, Andrew announced he would give up his royal titles because the “continued accusations” against him “distract from the work of His Majesty and the Royal Family”.

This means he will resign his title as the Duke of York. However, he will still remain a prince.

In the statement, Andrew also repeated his denial of the accusations against him.

Police investigation

On Sunday, the Daily Mail UK published an article claiming Prince Andrew tried to use his royal bodyguard to obtain personal information about his alleged victim, Giuffre.

It’s alleged he did this back in 2011, right before a photo of them was about to be published by the media.

The Daily Mail alleges Andrew gave confidential information about Giuffre, including her social security number, to his royal bodyguard to perform an investigation.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson told media outlets: “We are aware of media reporting and are actively looking into the claims made.”

There are no further details about the police investigation.

Giuffre’s posthumous memoir will be released this week.
