South Australia announces new Holocaust education funding

The South Australian Government has announced $500,000 in funding for Holocaust education in light of the Bondi terror attack on Sunday.

The funding will expand the Adelaide Holocaust Museum and Andrew Steiner Education Centre’s existing education programs for primary school students, and pay for a senior educator.

On Sunday, a 50-year-old man and his 24-year-old son allegedly opened fire at Bondi, killing 15 people in a targeted attack on the Jewish community.

Last week, the State Government said it would give the museum $242,000 in funding over three years. Following the Bondi terror attack, it doubled the funding to $500,000.

SA Premier Peter Malinauskas said the funding will let the museum’s “vital work… reach more students than ever before.”

In a post to Instagram, SA Opposition Leader Ashton Hurn said: “In a bipartisan manner, we will stand with the Government and do anything possible to ensure that [Jewish people] feel safe, that they feel protected”.
