Tiger Woods has been charged with driving under the influence after a rollover crash near his home on Jupiter Island, Florida, last Friday afternoon.
Here’s what to know.
What happened
The 50-year-old was driving an SUV when he collided with the back of a trailer being towed by a pickup truck, causing the vehicle to overturn onto its side. He was not injured and managed to crawl out through the passenger door. A breathalyser test at the scene returned 0.00, meaning no alcohol was detected.
Woods refused a urine test. Police said they observed signs of impairment, which they believe may have been caused by medication.
Woods was arrested and taken to Martin County Jail, before being released on bail after eight hours in custody. Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek told reporters the crash could have been far worse if there had been oncoming traffic.
Woods is facing three misdemeanour charges: DUI with property damage, refusal to submit to a lawful test, and property damage.

Context
Woods' arrest marks the fourth major driving incident involving the champion golfer.
In 2009, he crashed into a fire hydrant and a tree outside his Florida home with sleeping pills in his system.
In 2017, he was found asleep at the wheel near his Jupiter Island home with several prescription medications in his system and later pleaded guilty to reckless driving.
In 2021, a high-speed, single-vehicle crash near Los Angeles left him with severe leg injuries requiring surgical reconstruction.
Woods holds the equal record for PGA Tour career wins, with 82 titles, but has not competed outdoors since the Open Championship in July 2024.
Since early 2025, he has been working to recover from a ruptured Achilles tendon and back surgery in time for next month's Masters.
