Bruce Lehrmann can be named as the man who was charged with two counts of rape earlier this year in Toowoomba.
Queensland laws had previously prevented Lehrmann from being named, but the state government changed those laws in September. The Queensland Supreme Court today dismissed a further application from Lehrmann’s lawyer to suppress his name.
The charge relates to an alleged incident in Toowoomba in October 2021; Bruce Lehrmann has yet to enter a plea.
Lehrmann’s lawyers had sought to keep his identity private on mental health grounds and based on Lehrmann’s public profile.
Lehrmann was previously charged with sexually assaulting Brittany Higgins in Parliament House in 2021, when both were political staffers. He denies those allegations.
A trial in the ACT last year failed due to juror misconduct and a re-trial was abandoned.
