Nurses and midwives across NSW have held rallies this week calling for a pay increase and working conditions.
They are calling on the NSW Government to provide a 15% wage increase and superannuation backdated to 1 July 2024.
The NSW Nurses and Midwives’ Association (NSWNMA) says this will make their pay competitive with
Staff at 50 hospitals across regional and metropolitan NSW are holding 30 to 60 minute rallies this week.

NSW nurses and midwives pay increase
Alongside the 15% wage increase, the NSWNMA is also calling for sick leave to be increased to 20 days a year and a 30% penalty rate for night shifts.
It’s also pushing for a better work-life balance, including requiring employee agreement for certain night shifts.

On 15 July, NSWbegan industrial action for a pay increase by wearing badges. On Monday 22 July, rallies commenced.
has held several rounds of negotiations with the NSW Health Ministry, but is calling on the Treasurer to respond.
Government
A NSW Government spokesperson told TDA that “negotiations are still in their early stages”.
Last year, the NSWNMA negotiated and accepted a 4.5% wage increase with the NSW Government.
NSW Opposition leader Mark Speakman told TDA that the State Government has “betrayed our nurses.”
Speakman said: “nurses and midwives are bearing the brunt” of “budget mismanagement”.
