UK runner Jasmin Paris has become the first woman to win the Barkley marathon, known as one of the world’s toughest runs.
The Barkley Marathon is a 60 hour race that involves five laps through the Tennessee woods, leaving the runner to navigate the track without a phone or GPS, just a digital watch and compass.
The track requires the runner to travel up and down steep inclines, totalling twice the height of Mount Everest over the five laps.
Only 20 people have ever completed all five laps.
First woman to win Barkley marathon
Paris, a 40-year-old veterinarian, finished the race with less than two minutes to go before the time limit elapsed.
Paris told the BBC she wanted to win the marathon for herself, and for “any woman that wants to take on a challenge”.
